Hey guys, Emily here.
POMELO - what is it?
It’s a newsletter written by me - Emily - where I’ll be giving you thoughts to think about and digest. I’m at a moment in my life where I’m constantly feeding my brain so I’d like to share these things with other people and to start connecting the dots and hopefully help those that read what I write.
I thought that Monday would be a good day to start the newsletter, September has just popped around the corner and we’re slowly moving back into our routines again. Some are back at work, others back at uni, and others starting to get back into the swing of things with their projects and work. It’s a great time for all of us.
After disconnecting a bit over the summer and soaking up the Spanish sun, I feel ready for the next step. I feel ready to really get into working and pushing myself every day to get a little step closer to where I think I’m heading. I’ll use this idea to explain a new idea that I heard and liked the other day in a podcast.
On Emma Chamberlain’s podcast Everything Goes , she spoke about how we all need challenges in our lives. Big or small, that’s not important. What is important is to set ourselves a goal we want to accomplish. When we set ourselves these little challenges, we feel amazing when we manage to get them done, it’s a boost of dopamine. The human brain is wired to favor routine over novelty so when we slowly break down these brain connections to create new ones, in reality we are accomplishing more than just our set goal. We’re working on ourselves to live with the habits we really decide and want, not the ones the lazier part of our brain has gotten used to.
So, here’s my challenge: a weekly newsletter to force myself to actually write on a daily basis and share my work with others and slowly but surely, get better and better. I also encourage you to set yourself a little weekly challenge like cooking more often at home or drinking more water. You never know, you may enjoy the dopamine rush too!
I’ve been reading a lot of self-help books this summer, more than ever to be honest and I’m feeling great! I’ve also been reading a few other types like Steve Job’s biography and novels, but I’m feeling myself gravitate towards books that are helping me to work on myself and grow. They may be a recurring topic throughout the next few newsletters, we’ll see! I don’t want to get too into depth with that right now…
Now, regarding the topics and the structure of POMELO. I’ve got a lot of ideas written down and I’ve got a lot of things I’d like to talk to you about; for example: speciality coffee, books, series, podcasts, meditation, and loads of other more miscellaneous ideas. I’ll start working on formats and hopefully be able to put something really cool together, but you’ll just have to bear with me!
So this is our first newsletter guys! We did it, I hope you enjoyed it and I hope to offer you all really cool ones each week. Maybe we’ll stick to Mondays.
Have a great week,
Ejjjjjjhd.
