“Sometimes what didn’t work out for you really worked out for you”
What seemed like the worst possible news in January now in May has turned out to be a blessing in disguise. What seemed unfair turned out to be a favor. But it’s always the same story: the only way out is through.
Through the dense energy, through the doubts, through the fear, through the worry, through the unknown. The only way to get to other side where the answers begin to appear is by going through the more uncomfortable feelings.
In December I was a wreck, a letter came through the post which threw our reality upside down. The life we’d been living was no longer viable. While our roots were growing deeper someone else was pulling them up. When our future plans were starting to feel perfect the universe said “no” and that’s not easy to deal with. Humans have their brains wired to believe that certain things in life bring us security and that when we have those things that makes us feel safe, life is sorted. Until a wave comes along and wipes it all out.
I’ve been wiped out a few times in life and every single time something new has come along and shown me that life gets better if you let it. What I would have classed as the worst experiences of my life a few years ago, I now see as blessings. Those events allowed me to keep moving forwards, to keep growing and to leave things that no longer served me behind.
December was the first wave, a wake up call, then the final one hit this month. That last one put an end to our life as it was. We’ve learnt to allow life to happen without classifying events as “good” or “bad” ones and to just let flow. Of course it’s still difficult to let go of everything that gave shape to your life and fall into the unknown with nothing you had months ago, but that’s where the magic happens. If you’re able to let go and trust that certain things have to happen and they’re out of your control, doors you’d never looked at begin to open and new opportunities unfold for you.
Life never really stops happening. We may think that it does because we start to achieve things like a stable job, a mortgage, a wedding ring, a contract, a car… but all of those things can break without us being able to do anything about it and our false security is gone in the blink of an eye. We always have this idea that the future will be perfect, peaceful and stable but life never stops happening around us and the sooner we learn to flow with it and let go of everything, the easier everything becomes. If we allow ourselves to truly understand that we can’t control most things that happen to us and that as long as we’re alive, we’ll keep moving towards new things, life can happen freely around you and to you without taking anything personally. It just happens, it always will and it’s happening to every single person on this planet. It can be dreadful and scary or it can be marvellous and exciting. It all depends at what lenses you choose to look through.
Here’s to a new adventure.
The only way is through. I'm going to keep that statement in my mind every time I feel overwhelmed.
I can relate to this feeling a lot! After having tried to remain in control for most of my 33 years haha
