63. I wrote down the things that brought me joy every day for the past week.
It helped move me out of a dark, sad mindset.
“Look for something positive in each day. Even if some days you have to look a little harder”
My mood has been grey and heavy so far throughout November so after reading the quote mentioned above, I thought I’d make an effort every day throughout this week to find things that made me happy, write them down and share them with you all. Maybe you’ll enjoy it or maybe it will inspire you too.

*(I wrote everything down in the moment it happened or shortly after and I haven’t edited much because I wanted to keep it as true to the moment as possible).
**We = Chuso my boyfriend and I.
Monday 21st Nov-
We lit the chimney in the living room and sat by it reading to keep warm in the 5 degree weather. We also cooked rice with roasted broccoli on the fire for lunch, it was delicious. I spoke to a friend on the phone for 2 hours and we caught up with each other’s lives. Chuso and I worked on our new project for quite a few hours and we had some amazing breakthroughs that led to a lot of ideas and brainstorming which is always an amazing feeling.
Tuesday 22nd Nov-
Today I received a video of a friend opening her POMELO clothes package that has arrived mega fast, that made me smile big. Chuso made me a hot cocoa in the morning. I saw the first snow on the mountains today, it’s all white and it instantly makes everywhere seem colder. The feeling of walking into a warm house after being outside in the cold wind is an instant hug.
I made the best scrambled eggs today. They were our chicken’s eggs and the trick is to add a bit of milk and using a whisk. Delicious.
The slow pour, sound and smell of fresh made coffee. The first sip is always a wholesome feeling, especially with the cold weather.
I read a lot about the Wildwood Tarot and I felt really inspired and excited. I really wanna get my hands on that deck. This experienced was shared with my friend Sara and it made it even more special. It’s a magical feeling to be around people who get excited by the same things as you and be able to share them together.
I listened to my friend Ángela’s voice notes that she’d sent me on WhatsApp by the fire before bed and I missed her a little.
Wednesday 23rd Nov-
Mamá Belén sent me a beautiful poem in the morning which was the first thing I read when I used my phone. My friend Dora uploaded a photo of her wearing her POMELO t-shirt which made me big-smile. Ana sent me a photo and messages about receiving the POMELO clothes she ordered. She said that she loves them which made my heart warm.
I got to wear my new green wooly socks today, that made me smile.
I met up for a coffee with Ángela and we shared our updates together and she always makes me feel energised. She’s a big ball of happy energy and she infected me with positive and happy feelings.
We got a tree topper for the tree!!!! We’ve been on a 3 year hunt and finally found one! I’ve also got 5 little stockings for the fireplace that I’m going to draw each of our names on with a green gel glue/pen.
Chuso and I watched the Spain vs. Costa Rica match together by the fire whilst we made s’mores. I wasn’t a fan because marshmallows are gross.
Thursday 24th Nov-
I slept like a baby, I took melatonin before bed and wow: no eating at my own brain for an hour before falling asleep.
I had scrambled eggs and beans for breakfast and then at around 12 I fell asleep on the sofa reading my ebook. Bliss.
Chuso made cachopo for dinner and it was amazing.
I’m counting down the days until the 1st of December to put the tree up.
Chuso put a big fluffy blanket over me when I’d fallen asleep in the arm chair by the fire. I woke up with it on and him sat next to me reading. We smiled at each other and I nodded off again.
We ate a pizza and watched a film called Sleepers. Again, by the fire. It’s our new “place” because it’s the warmest and cosiest in the house.
Friday 25th Nov-
Baby made me a coffee when I woke up, I had a bit of a lie in until 9:30 because I’ve been feeling tireddddd. Rest was needed.
I danced around the kitchen to As it was by Harry Styles and Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa by FINNEAS - they’re my two current happy/dance songs. (When I say dance what I really mean is jump up and down and wiggle around a bit).
I put on my favourite tracksuit, socks and jacket and we went for a beautiful walk in the mountain behind our village. The grass is green and wet from the cold dew, the trees last leaves are yellow and orange, the mountains are a sandy red and the wind is cold. We forgot our watch or phone and I was a bit worried we’d get home late because I had to work, luckily we live in a tiny village that has church bells that tell the time no matter where you are in the valley.
My friends Gema and Isa called me because they’re together in the UK and it made me smile. They looked happy.
We finished watching last night’s film Sleepers and it was amazing, 10/10 recommend. It’s on Netflix.
We worked on our new project and it felt great to take a few more steps forwards. I really love the feeling when I get good ideas and we come up with very cool designs, texts, products…
Chuso went to sleep early so I stayed up and watched a film in the living room next to the half put up Christmas tree and decorated stockings, with a plate of noodles. The film sucked but the experience was cute. Crawling into bed and him being there to cuddle is a big reminder of how lucky I am.
Saturday 26th Nov-
I cooked pancakes and made coffee for breakfast. I had a shower, did my skincare routine, put my hair into a bun and put on my current favourite clothes. I took my supplements and filled up the water bottle.
Phone in airplane mode, car, Chuso and off we go into the mountains. We’re going on a little excursion to a mountain retreat. The grass and flowers around the path we’re driving up is covered in white frost, the sun is shining and I feel happy.
We spent all morning at the top of a mountain, I ran, I jumped and I smiled. We took photos together smiling. We played games and laughed lots. We spoke about when the mountains in front of us are covered in a thick layer of snow that we’ll be skiing and snowboarding down them. Hopefully in December. We felt excited for the snow to hit. We sat down and spoke about the future together.
We drove home, the sun was shining and we made Korean style chicken burger (dip in flour, dip in water, repeat and fry) - delicious! I also made home made chai latte. We put up the Christmas tree (I finally gave in, why wait any longer?) and I felt my heart warm up seeing all of our tree decorations. Each one belongs to a different house and city, a past life we had together in a different place, these little things still accompany us and spark memories once a year for us to look back on. We watched Mean Girls, we laughed and once it finished, we listened to Akon and I danced around Chuso’s office while he worked on designs. Life is sweet. I like taking the time to reflect on the things that make me happy. I might keep this up for myself.
We saw the adjacent village’s firework show sat on the allotment wall. They were beautiful and they lasted a lot longer than we expected.
I really had no idea what we’d do today but I definitely didn’t imagine this.
Sunday 27th Nov-
Chilled avocado toast and coffee morning. Shower, wash hair, skin care and comfy clothes day. Work an hour and see what the day brings.
I spoke to my friend Sara for two hours about Wildwood Tarot again and I’m falling deeply in love with that deck of cards.
We made s’mores in the fire and I still don’t like them, marshmallows are disgusting x2. Book, fire and chill time. I’m not reading much this month but that’s okay, I’ll get back into the groove when I feel like it’s time. I’m currently reading Everything I know about love by Dolly Alderton because Sophie and
recommended it and I trust both of their book opinions, so here we are, half way in.To finish off the day we watched the Spain vs. Germany match and it was really, really good. I can’t say that I’m a big football fan because I have -2 knowledge in how the World Cup even works, but watching it with Chuso and asking him about his footballer days makes me very happy, and I get excited when people score goals.
Editing Emily from the future: writing these moments that made me feel full of joy really did help me in one week leave that dark, grey mindset and focus on other things. I never would have thought that it actually worked, but for me it did.
Isn’t life about the small, mundane details anyway?
