If you’d have told me a year ago that POMELO would exist, that I’d write a post every week, that I’d meet amazing people online and then face to face, that I’d grow so much as a person, that I’d make clothes and sell a lot, that I’d cover Barcelona with stickers, that I’d be so in love with my own project and that Mondays would be my favourite day of the week… I’d say that you’re crazy.
I have to pinch myself to actually believe it all sometimes.
I can’t actually remember how POMELO was born. I remember that I created a Substack account called “Food for Thought” where I was going to write occasionally about my thoughts, I had no idea what the plan was - I actually didn’t have one and slowly I started posting every week and then decided on Monday at 7:34 a.m. to help you kick start your week and I kept on taking little steps until today. I’ve never had a proper or strict plan with this newsletter and I’ve always just let myself flow and see where I end up and I can firmly say that I’m in love with it, I’m passionate about it and I’m proud of it.
Food for Thought was a necessary step to be able to find my feet and grow into something much purer and bigger which is now: POMELO. I was lying in bed one night after spending a few days thinking about a new name for this “thing” I was doing and it suddenly came to me. I hate the fruit (pomelo in Spanish is grapefruit) but I thought that the word in itself was awesome and that was it, everything else just kept coming naturally and at the perfect moment.
I say thank you a lot, but I really do mean it. I think that gratitude is the best way to be a good person, to feel complete, to give back to others, to appreciate everything that happens to us in life, to live in the present… Gratitude is important to me and I am extremely grateful for everyone that’s on this journey with me. POMELO wouldn’t exist as it does today if it weren’t for all of you, the readers.
I write these posts and I keep them in my heart until Monday at 7:34 a.m. - that’s when they become yours. They become available to everyone on the Internet, they claim a life of their own and they grow with each person that reads them and I’m no longer in control. This may sound philosophical and deep but my intention behind every post is to help at least one person who reaches the text. Sometimes I feel extremely vulnerable and also scared, but one message from one person saying “thank you” makes it all worth it.
My dream is to grow POMELO, to publish more than once a week, to create a podcast, to create a paid subscription zone and to create a magazine. I haven’t accomplished any of those “goals” yet, but I’ve done a lot more things than I think I realise.
If you have a crazy idea you want to try or if you want to do something, anything, but you don’t see the point in it, just start. You may surprise yourself with what you find along the new path, you may love it or hate it, you may meet people or not, you may grow as a person or you may not… it doesn’t matter. The point is that things will happen! As my dear friend Dora says “cuando haces cosas, pasan cosas” which means “when you do things, things happen” and that’s what life is: things happening each and every day so you may as well try that “thing” you’ve been thinking about.
Again, thank you for the constant support, the sharing, the likes, the messages… Here’s to another 50 POMELOS!
